Repair & Renovation Guide 77 Restoring surfaces where the plaster has been fully detached and the substrate is exposed Usually, in cases of a strong earthquake, loose plaster coating, or a combination of the two, it is possible to observe complete detachment of the plaster in large sections of the plastered surface to a point where the substrate has become exposed and visible. In such cases, carefully inspect the entire surface of the plaster for additional loose sections, and if any, remove them from the surface. Ideally, in such cases, the plaster should be completely removed from the entire surface and it should be re-plastered from the beginning. For this purpose, and after we have done the necessary preparation (cleaning and stabilization of the surface by soaking with water or emulsion solution {D-20 (p. 233) with water in a ratio of 1:1, DUROSTOP (1: 2) (p. 252) or DUROMAX (1: 5) (p. 251)}, there are many available and different solutions that include: èPlastering with traditional materials and method (scratch and base coat - top coat). Reinforce the traditional materials with improving emulsion {DUROMAX (p. 251), D-20 (p. 233), DUROSTOP (p. 252)} and polypropylene fibers DUROFIBRE (p. 248). èPlastering with manufactured, industrialized plastering products and traditional application method (scratch and base coat - top coat) {D-40 (p. 236) & D-41 (p. 236) or HYDROSTOP PLASTER ELASTIC (p. 258) or MEGAFIX (p. 261)}. èPlastering with manufactured, industrialized plaster and one-coat plaster products (scratch coat - top coat) D-42 ONE COAT (p. 236). èSmooth the surface with a single coat using the resinous cement paste (for covering defects up to 20mm/ coat) GRANULAR (p. 256). After completing the scratch and base coat: èCrack protection of the surfaces, by using the crackproof organic coat in paste form BASECOAT THERMO (p. 230), reinforced with the fiberglass mesh DS-4160 (p. 247). Top coat with either plaster in paste form, HYDROSTOP ACRYLIC PLASTER FINE (p. 257) or HYDROSTOP SILICONE PLASTER (p. 259). èIf it is desired to achieve, in addition to crack proofing, sound proofing, waterproofing, thermal and vibration protection, apply to the entire surface the multipurpose paste dB BLOCK (p. 240), in a thickness of 2-3mm. Then, either paint over it with elastomeric paint, such as D-80 HYDROSTOP ELASTIC (p. 239) or THERMOELASTIC COLOUR (p. 270) or plaster with a flexible top coat plaster, such as HYDROSTOP PLASTER ELASTIC (p. 258), HYDROSTOP ACRYLIC PLASTER FINE (p. 257), or HYDROSTOP SILICONE PLASTER (p. 259). For a perfectly smooth finish, and mainly for interior spaces, skim coat after 2-3 days, using the flexible putty STUCOFIX ELASTIC PUTTY (p. 268). The following day, paint with the ecological emulsion paint SUPER ECO (p. 269), available in hundreds of colors. Alternatively, apply directly over the surface of dB BLOCK, the microcement in paste form DS-258 DECO MICRO FLEX (p. 245), or the resinous decorative cement mortar of fine finish DS-259 DECO MICRO RESIN (p. 246), for the creation of unique surface stylings.
