220 Repair & Renovation Guide The renovation of the bathroom may involve the application of microcement in just a part of, or the entire bathroom. Originally a product from the past, microcement is a product that nowadays is available in its modern industrialized version, and it has been applied in every residential or commercial building space and the bathroom as well! Especially in the bathroom area, the applications of microcement have to show excellent aesthetic results and for this reason, the product has gained a very important share in the renovations (and new constructions) of bathrooms in hotels, commercial and residential spaces. Beyond the aesthetic value, however, the application of the appropriate varnish on the microcement ensures the durability of the surfaces and their longevity over time, comparable to that of linings with tiles, marble, or other materials. The application of DS-250 (p. 244) or DS-252 FLEX (p. 244) microcements over existing tiles, mosaic, or other surfaces (floors etc.) can be done in small thicknesses (5-10mm), with the necessary encasement of the fiberglass mesh DS-4160 (p. 247) in their mass. Usually, on vertical surfaces, the application of microcement incorporates coloring styles by using the pigments in syringe packaging DUROCOLOR (p. 247), but also using the CEMENTITIOUS GROUTS (p. 275) of DUROSTICK (available in 38 colors) or the pigments in powder form DUROCOLOR POWDER-C (p. 247). In any case, the aesthetic result of these styles is literally and figuratively, unique! The protection of the microcement surface is achieved by applying special purpose varnishes depending on the functional need and the desired aesthetic result. It is recommended to apply the acrylic varnish with matte finish VISTA (p. 271), while on applications subjected to increased stress, such as floors, apply the two-component polyurethane varnish with a matte finish DECOFIN POLYURETHANE (p. 241) or the water-soluble polyurethanebased varnish with matte finish DECOFIN AQUA PU (p. 240) (ideal for interior spaces that are not adequately ventilated, since it is odorless). On interior surfaces with strict hygiene requirements, (bathrooms, sinks, kitchen counters), it is recommended to apply the two-component epoxy varnish with gloss finish DECOFIN EPOXY SF (p. 241) or the two-component epoxy varnish with satin finish DECOFIN EPOXY AQUA (p. 241). The addition of ANTISLIP ADDITIVE POWDER (p. 229) to the floor protection varnishes will give them a non-slip surface, even when wet. To maintain and protect the selected, or styled color and in order not to change (darken) enough from the varnish application, it is recommended to apply the micromolar primer AQUAFIX (p. 230), before the application of the protective varnish.
