216 Repair & Renovation Guide Several houses and apartment buildings have garage spaces, attics or lofts. These are closed or open spaces that usually people do not pay a lot of attention to, especially regarding their good image. However, in several cases there is a need to renovate them, either because of major damage to them or because they may be converted for some additional use e.g., a workshop. The renovation usually includes surface waterproofing (if there is such a need), repainting, the examination and care of all door and window frames and openings, the repair or complete renovation of the floor surfaces. DUROSTICK proposes... The waterproofing of the wall surfaces in the space (especially if this space is a basement), is accomplished with a waterproofer D-1 (p. 231), D-1 FLEX (p. 231) or HYDROSTOP WATERTANK PROFESSIONAL (p. 260). Paint the vertical surfaces of the space with the paint of choice (from the range of emulsion & acrylic paints of DUROSTICK). As for the floor, usually made of concrete or cement screed, if the surface is in good condition, clean it thoroughly, and remove loose sections, if any. If there is a need for repairs, do so by using the rapid set repair mortar DS-247 (p. 244) or the epoxy putty D-38 (p. 235). Alternatively, for the repair of damage (sealing, filling gaps), but also for smoothing the floor surfaces, it is recommended to apply the epoxy putty for repairs EPOXY PUTTY (p. 254). If necessary, use a floor/concrete smoothing machine and thoroughly clean the dust. Apply the epoxy primer DUROEPOXY FLOOR PRIMER SF (p. 248). It will stabilize the substrate, resulting in unbreakable adhesion with the two-component epoxy paint DUROEPOXY FLOOR SF (p. 248) that will follow once the primer is dry. Alternatively, prime the floor surface with WATERPROOF EPOXY PRIMER AQUA (p. 272) and paint it with the two-component polyaspartic paint based on polyurea POLYUREA FLOOR COATING (p. 263). Its finished surface is highly resistant to abrasion, acids, alkalis, mechanical and chemical stress, but also UV radiation.
