214 Repair & Renovation Guide The renovation of interior or exterior space includes builtin or movable structures, usually made of wood or metal that are either on-site or will be installed new. The initial treatment or rehabilitation of the existing structures is an important step of the renovation. In cases of wood structures/items that have to be painted, with varnish or enamel paint, it is very important to follow these steps: • First remove any existing, peeling paints. • Fill any cracks and/or holes. • Impregnate the wood with a special preservative. • Continue with the application of the varnish of choice. In cases of metal structures/items that have to be painted, it is very important to follow these steps: • First remove any rust and existing weathered paints. • Clean the surface meticulously and allow for them to dry thoroughly. • Apply the appropriate anti-rust undercoat. • Paint with enamel paint. If these structures/items have bases/legs that cut through the existing or the new protective lining, then, they must necessarily be sealed, in order to eliminate the possibility of moisture penetration from those points. DUROSTICK proposes... Seal any cracks and holes with the water-based acrylic wood putty DUROWOOD (p. 252). Before painting, apply as an undercoat (water or solventbased), VELATURA (p. 276). Then coat the primed surface(s) with enamel paint DUROLUX (p. 250) (also available water or solvent-based). Alternatively, for coating, the wood surface(s) with varnish, apply a clear coat of the impregnation preservative DUROXYL WOOD Protection/Conditioner (p. 253) for protection against wood-boring insects, fungi, mold, blue spots, and rot. Continue by applying one to three coats of the wood impregnation-colored stain DUROXYL (p. 252) (water or solvent-based), depending on the color aiming to achieve. If desired, and for reasons of additional protection and decoration, apply to the (stained) surface the varnish (solvent or water-based) of choice DUROLAC (p. 249) or MARINER (p. 261). Waterproofing of the wood surface can be achieved with NANO PROOF WOOD DS-350 (p. 262). Also, teak furniture or teak-type wood surfaces can be treated with TEAK OIL (p. 269) of DUROSTICK once every year. For metal surfaces: remove the rust, if any, with RUST REMOVER (p. 267) of DUROSTICK. Apply METAL PRIMER (p. 276), or if dealing with aluminum or galvanized surfaces, apply ALUMINUM & GALVANIZED PRIMER (p. 275) of DUROSTICK. Then, paint the surface with the enamel paint DUROLUX (p. 250) of DUROSTICK. Seal all the breakpoints of wood or metal bases/legs with the polyurethane sealant and adhesive DUROFLEX-PU (p. 249), after priming with PRIMER-PU (p. 263) of DUROSTICK. Alternatively, seal interior wood surfaces with the elastomeric sealant & adhesive DUROWOOD DS POLYMER (p. 252) of DUROSTICK.
