204 Repair & Renovation Guide Applying microcement for the first time on an exterior space requires the following steps: • Creating a suitable substrate that will receive it. Usually, that is a slab of reinforced concrete 8-10cm thick, so that it can withstand stress and possible subsidence of the soil. The slab should be strong enough to support the microcement and protect it from cracks, detachments, and damage. • Apply the microcement in a coat of 6-10mm and reinforce it with the appropriate fiberglass mesh. It is necessary to create expansion joints every 16-20m2. • If the microcement will be styled with pigments, do it, while the microcement is still fresh. • After a few days have passed (3-8 days depending on the applied coat thickness, and the environmental conditions), and once the microcement has dried and cured in-depth, apply the appropriate varnish on the new surface to ensure its waterproofing and protection DUROSTICK proposes... Use a traditional cement mix for the concrete slab, which ideally, is fortified with improving additives: emulsions D-20 (p. 233), or DUROMAX (p. 251). Once the concrete slab is thoroughly dry, apply the microcement of DUROSTICK. Choose between DS-250 (p. 244), DS-252 FLEX (p. 244) or DS-254 IRON (p. 245). Reinforce the microcement DS-250 (p. 244) with either improving additive RESIN POWDER (p. 266) or DUROMAX (p. 251). The use of improving additive is not necessary for either microcement DS-252 FLEX (p. 244) and DS-254 IRON (p. 245). Reinforce them by encasing into the microcement the fiberglass mesh DS-4160 (p. 247). Create expansion joints around the perimeter and every 16-20m2 of surface coated with microcement. First prime the expansion joint with PRIMERPU (p. 263) and place in them the backer rod DS265 (p. 246). Seal the properly prepared expansion joint with the elastomeric polyurethane sealant DUROFLEX-PU (p. 249). Once everything is cured, apply to the microcement surface the varnish of choice: VISTA (p. 271), DECOFIN POLYURETHANE (p. 241), or DECOFIN AQUA PU (p. 240). To maintain and protect the selected, or styled color and in order not to change (darken) enough from the varnish application, it is recommended to apply the micromolar primer AQUAFIX (p. 230), before the application of the protective varnish. The addition of ANTISLIP ADDITIVE POWDER (p. 229) to floor protection varnishes will give them a non-slip surface, even when wet.
