200 Repair & Renovation Guide STRUCTURES ON ROOFS Renovations - Rooftop Installation of built-in or movable structures on the roof (pergolas, railings, furniture, decorative objects, etc.) The installation of built-in structures on the roof means the creation of breakpoints of the lining at their support points/legs, (if any lining exists) or the waterproofing of the roof. Breakpoints are potential ingress points of moisture under the lining or waterproofing coat and into the substrates and result in damage to them. The avoidance of this kind of problems is achieved with the appropriate sealant that is able to cover the breakpoints and ensure the absorption of expansions and contractions, due to temperature variations, but also due to the diversity of materials encountered (wood or metal with lining elements, such as ceramic tiles, stone slabs, etc.). Seal the breakpoints with the polyurethane sealant DUROFLEX-PU (p. 249) after the proper preparation and priming of the surface with PRIMER-PU (p. 263) and controlling the depth of the joint with the backer rod DS-265 (p. 246), where it is deemed technically necessary. Note: When installing bases for a built-in structure on the roof and if metal or other types of plugs are used for their anchoring, the use of the multipurpose, polyurethane super glue DUROSTICK D-90 (p. 239) for facilitating the installation of the plugs is highly recommended as the most appropriate of ways for such applications.
