Once finished, rinse well and allow for the surface to dry thoroughly. • Prepare the surface with the micromolar stabilizer AQUAFIX (p. 230). • Paint the surface with the paint of choice, such as the fungi and mold resistant acrylic paint BATHROOM & KITCHEN (p. 279). NOTE: In case the level above the ceiling of the bathroom/kitchen is an exterior space (e.g., terrace, roof), the problem is probably due to the lack of thermal insulation and/or waterproofing on that exterior surface. If a decision is made to waterproof and thermally insulate at the same time, choose the thermal insulation and waterproofing system for roofs COOL ROOF (p. 190-191) if possible, or the lightweight thermal insulation and waterproofing system for roofs COOL ROOF LIGHT (p. 190-191). If a choice is made to waterproof the exterior, just follow the PROBLEM - SOLUTION 4.1. 3.5 Surface cracks, peeling and disintegrating paint, and appearance of moisture stains on painted surfaces (ceiling and/or wall) of the bathroom SOLUTION • Using a wide taping knife remove the peeling paint and loose sections. • Remove dust and foreign objects from the surface. • Fill, if necessary, with the coating paste POWDER COAT (p. 263), or STUCOFIX putty (p. 268). • Stabilize the surface and improve its adhesion properties with micromolar stabilizer AQUAFIX (p. 230). • Paint the surface with the paint of choice, such as the fungi and mold resistant acrylic paint BATHROOM & KITCHEN (p. 279). 3.6 Repair damage to the surfaces caused by leaking plumbing components (faucets, toilet tanks, pipes etc.) SOLUTION • Restore the damage of the plumbing components with the help of a plumber. • Clean thoroughly around the repaired area. • Remove loose sections or mold that may have remained on the surface and apply the special purpose mold & mildew remover D-95 CLEANER (p. 240). Once finished, rinse well and allow for the surface to dry thoroughly. • Apply the new seals with the multipurpose elastomeric sealant & adhesive DS POLYMER of 32 colors (p. 242) or the high adhesion polyurethane elastomeric sealant DUROFLEX-PU (p. 249). 3.7 Stained and/or discolored grout joints SOLUTION Α’ Clean the joints with the special cleaner BIOCLEAN FOR POLISHED MARBLE (p. 230) to remove any surface dirt. If the cleaning result is satisfactory, waterproof the grout joints with D-16 HYDROSTOP (p. 232). SOLUTION Β’ If the aesthetic result after the cleaning effort is not satisfactory, remove the existing grout joints with the GROUT SCRAPER (p. 280) to a depth of at least 3mm. Clean thoroughly from the dust and grout with the FLEXIBLE & OIL REPELLENT GROUT (p. 278) or the twocomponent epoxy grout DUROPOXY (p. 251). Both products do not stain or discolor.
