Repair & Renovation Guide 119 2.1 Mold growth and black spots on interior wall surfaces usually on the lower or higher parts of the walls SOLUTION • Remove the mold with a brush (as much as possible) and then use the special purpose mold & mildew remover spray D-95 CLEANER (p. 240). Rinse with plenty of water and allow for the surface to dry thoroughly. • Stabilize the surface with the micromolar stabilizer AQUAFIX (p. 230) or with the SOLVENT-BASED PRIMER (p. 276). • Paint the surface with the paint of choice, such as the fungi and mold resistant acrylic paint BATHROOM & KITCHEN (p. 279) or the top-quality acrylic paint 100% ACRYLIC (p. 273). 2.2 Deterioration of plaster (to a greater or lesser extent) on interior walls SOLUTION • Try to find and treat the cause of the problem. • Remove, if necessary, all the plaster on the problem area. If that is the case, then proceed with a scratch coat application using the base coat plaster D-40 (p. 236). • Replaster the surface with the water-repellent one coat plaster D-42 ONE COAT (p. 236) that can be applied to varied thicknesses and yields a texture compatible with the existing plaster topcoat surface. •If a smooth wall texture is desired, apply the coating paste POWDER COAT (p. 263) or for a perfectly smooth surface, apply the ultrafine skim coat paste STUCOFIX-P (p. 268). • Prepare the surface with the micromolar stabilizer AQUAFIX (p. 230) or with SOLVENT-BASED PRIMER (p. 276). • Paint using a high coverage and durability paint, such as the luxury emulsion paint SUPER (p. 268) or the ecological emulsion paint for interior and exterior use SUPER ECO (p. 269). 2.3 Presence of moisture, damp spots and mold on the interior side of the exterior wall (usually appearing at the lowest or highest points of the wall surface) POSSIBLE CAUSES • Liquefaction of the indoor humidity of the room (condensation of water vapor). • Moisture penetration through the wall or slab. SOLUTION Α’ • After identifying the cause and take the necessary actions, thoroughly clean the area with the special purpose mold & mildew remover D-95 CLEANER (p. 240). Rinse with plenty of water and allow for the surface to dry thoroughly. • Stabilize the surface with the micromolar stabilizer AQUAFIX (p. 230) or with the SOLVENT-BASED PRIMER (p. 276). • Paint the surface, ideally, with the fungi and mold resistant acrylic paint BATHROOM & KITCHEN (p. 279). • It is important to make sure that the room is properly ventilated to avoid the liquefaction of water vapours. If this is not possible, install the moisture collector WATERTRAP (p. 273) or a dehumidifier. SOLUTION Β’ If proper solution to the problem is desired, in combination with the described one in SOLUTION A΄, the exterior application of the Certified External Thermal Insulation Composite System TΗΕRMOSEAL (p. 178-179) on the wall surfaces is highly recommended.
