Repair & Renovation Guide 113 SOLUTION for mortars D-20 (p. 233), or the flexible, multipurpose mortar MEGAFIX (p. 261), without fortification. • Prepare the surface by applying SOLVENT-BASED PRIMER (p. 276). • Paint the entire surface, ideally with the polyurethane-acrylic hybrid paint DUROPAINTPU (p. 251), the elastomeric and sealing paint D-80 HYDROSTOP ELASTIC (p. 239), the top-quality acrylic paint 100% ACRYLIC (p. 273) or with the 100% acrylic paint, for mold protection MINERAL SURFACE PAINT (p. 281). NOTE: In cases of extensive surface damage, before applying primer and paint, protect the surface with the application of the flexible waterproofing mortar for wall surfaces WATERPROOF MORTAR (p. 273), to form a moisture-proof protective shield. 1.6 Exterior wall surfaces with normal wear due to age and moisture penetration SOLUTION Α’ Depending on the extent of the damage, which should be assessed, as well as the stability of the surface, there are a number of solutions available: • Render the surface with the flexible, multipurpose mortar MEGAFIX (p. 261) or with the flexible, waterproof cementitious plaster HYDROSTOP PLASTER ELASTIC (p. 258), and create a protective coat around the entire wall surface. • Prepare the surface using the SOLVENT-BASED PRIMER (p. 276) and repaint the surface with the elastomeric and sealing paint D-80 HYDROSTOP ELASTIC (p. 239), or with the polyurethane-acrylic hybrid paint DUROPAINT-PU (p. 251). If you are also concerned about the energy consumption for heating and cooling the interior spaces, then choosing an energy efficient, reflective, thermally-protective, waterproofing, ‘cool’ paint, such as THERMOELASTIC COLOUR (p. 270), is the perfect solution that fits your need. SOLUTION Β’ • Apply on the entire surface the multipurpose paste dB BLOCK (p. 240) at a thickness of 2-3mm. • Continue by applying as topcoat the ready-to-use plaster in paste form HYDROSTOP ACRYLIC PLASTER FINE (p. 257), or HYDROSTOP SILICONE PLASTER (p. 259), the flexible, waterproof cementitious plaster HYDROSTOP PLASTER ELASTIC (p. 258), and/or paint with the elastomeric and sealing paint D-80 HYDROSTOP ELASTIC (p. 239). In this way the surface is shielded and protected against moisture, noise pollution, heat loss, cracking and it is also upgraded aesthetically. SOLUTION C’ Evaluate if there is thermal insulation system in, or applied on the walls, and if not, then proceed with the complete thermal insulation, but also the aesthetic upgrade of the exterior surface by applying to it the Certified External Thermal Insulation Composite System ΤΗΕRMOSEAL (p.178-179). 1.7 Partial or total disintegration of exterior wall render, down to the brown/base coat SOLUTION If the damage to the rendered surface has extended deeper, down to the brown/base coat or even deeper, repair with the water-repellent one coat plaster D-42 ONE COAT (p. 236) that can be applied to varied thicknesses and gives texture compatible with the existing top coat surface. The application of the flexible waterproofing mortar for wall surfaces WATERPROOF MORTAR (p. 273), before painting, creates a moisture-proof protective shield of the render. Complete the repair by preparing the surface using the SOLVENT-BASED PRIMER (p. 276). Paint the surface with the elastomeric and sealing paint D-80 HYDROSTOP ELASTIC (p. 239).
