112 Repair & Renovation Guide Problems with exterior wall surfaces SOLUTION Α’ • Prepare the surface using the micromolar stabilizer AQUAFIX (p. 230) or with SOLVENTBASED PRIMER (p. 276). • Repaint the entire surface, ideally with elastomeric and sealing paint D-80 HYDROSTOP ELASTIC (p. 239) or the thermo ceramic energy efficient paint THERMOELASTIC COLOUR (p. 270) that will both fully cover hairline cracks and prevents their reappearance. SOLUTION Β’ If the width and number of cracks are large and the render sounds hollow, then: • Remove all the cracked render, including its brown (base) coat, if needed. • Clean the surface and remove all deteriorated parts. • Soak the surface with water or stabilize it by applying the improving additive D-20 (p. 233) or DUROSTOP (p. 252) in a dilution ratio 1:1 with water. If needed, replace the brown (base) coat with the ready-mixed plaster D-40 (p. 236), reinforced with the fiberglass mesh for plasters DS-1090 (p. 242). • Render the surface using the ready-mixed plasters D-41 (p. 236), or the water-repellent one coat plaster D-42 ONE COAT (p. 236), if the render coat needs to be thicker. • Alternatively, render with the flexible, multipurpose mortar MEGAFIX (p. 261) or the flexible, waterproof cementitious plaster HYDROSTOP PLASTER ELASTIC (p. 258), creating a water repellent and flexible protective coat around the entire wall surface. • Prepare the newly coated surface using the micromolar stabilizer AQUAFIX (p. 230) or the SOLVENT-BASED PRIMER (p. 276). • Paint the entire surface, ideally with the elastomeric and sealing paint D-80 HYDROSTOP ELASTIC (p. 239), the thermo ceramic energy efficient paint THERMOELASTIC COLOUR (p. 270) or with the silicone-based, self-cleaning paint for plaster and concrete WALL PRO NANO PAINT (p. 272). 1.4 Cracks in joints between door & window frames and wall render SOLUTION • Using a knife or a blade, remove the existing and worn out or damaged seals. • Thoroughly clean the joint by removing foreign objects and dust. • Repair the cracks using special repair products like SUPER FLEX POWDER (p. 269) or D-66 REPAIR (p. 238). • Apply at the joint the elastomeric sealant and multipurpose adhesive DS POLYMER in 32 colors (p. 242) in cartridge form, with the heavy duty PROFESSIONAL CARTRIDGE GUN (p. 277). Alternatively, apply the elastomeric polyurethane sealant DUROFLEX-PU (p. 249) after priming the joints with PRIMER-PU (p. 263). If necessary, use masking tape at the edge of the joint(s) to perfectly and cleanly outline the sealant. Remove the masking tape as soon as the sealant application is complete. • After 20 minutes of applying the sealant smooth it with a wet finger or special tool. • Paint with the elastomeric and sealing paint D-80 HYDROSTOP ELASTIC (p. 239). 1.5 Crumbling - disintegrated sections (of the surface) of cementitious render SOLUTION • Remove all loose materials, foreign objects, dust, grease, etc. • Thoroughly clean and soak the surface. • If the disintegration of the plaster has not gone in depth (it is only on the surface), repair with the fast setting white repair plaster D-32 (p. 235), fortified with the acrylic emulsion additive
