102 Repair & Renovation Guide MASKING TAPES Choose brand name masking tapes that will cover what should not be painted, will stick well, and when they come off, they will leave no trace. They are available in various sizes and types, to facilitate your work, while there are special masking tapes to create patterns with stripes or even curves. They are also available in varying adhesive strength levels. Tip: To get rid of any masking tape residues more easily, DUROSTICK manufactures a special remover for adhesive tape residues DS-210 (p.243), available in spray form. MISSING SOMETHING? If you do not want to exhaust yourself up and down the ladder, a telescopic paint stick (extension pole) will come in handy. The well-known and widely used red rosin paper (also known as sheathing or building paper) is available in a roll and is the solution for the proper protection of the floor in the work area. Use the appropriate masking tape and stick it to the edges of the base moulding to avoid spilling accidents. If the paint area cannot be completely emptied of furniture and things, move them to the center of the room and cover them with plastic sheeting, and plastic drop cloths, available in various sizes. Mixing paddle: An accessory that adapts to a power tool and at low speed, will mix the paint(s) you will use, before and during painting. A simpler and more common solution, a piece of smooth, narrow wood stick, about 40cm high, will do the job, with a little more effort. If some patching is needed, a wide taping knife and a putty knife are the tools you will need. The patches are sanded down with fine sandpaper. An absorbent sponge and a clean cotton cloth for your spills and drips are essential. Don’t forget your work clothes. A work uniform, a t-shirt, sneakers (work boots for professionals), and a pair of gloves, (and sometimes a pair of goggles), are all you need. PAINT PAINT TRAY or BUCKET The narrow, rectangular buckets of the trade, combined with a rolling grill on their wide side to work the paint roller on it, are one option for carrying the paint during the painting project. Another option is the traditional painting tray. With a dimension proportional to the paint roller to be used, the tray holds a sufficient amount of paint and has a textured grille for rolling the paint roller over it. The old-time painter and the individual who loves the painting process, prefer it. At DUROSTICK, to support your love and devotion to your craft and to better facilitate your work, we have available for free, disposable paint tray liners with every purchase of our paints. They sit perfectly over your painting tray and once the job is completed, they are simply thrown away, leaving the tray you bought perfectly clean until the next use.
